Lyme Regis and Killerton

Went back to Lyme Regis to do some shopping and to see if it was less busy than on the bank holiday Monday. It wasn't. It's mid-term school holiday week.

But we loved Lyme Regis. Not only by the seaside but has great boutique shops and lots of cafes, food stores, restaurants and beautiful streets and houses.

  
Then we went to a National Trust propery, Killerton. Killerton was owned by the same family for about 350 years and gifted to the National Trust in 1944 by Sir Richard Acland.

Morning walk to the village

Bank 'oliday Monday

Went to Cogden beach on the south coast.

 

 

 A long, stoney beach, with sea kale and wildflowers growing abundantly.

 We walked to Burton Bradstcock where singer Billy Bragg lives in the big house on the right (above).

Other people spend their holidays in these. Stalag 13 came to mind.

Then on to Lyme Regis for lunch:

 

Sleepy Sunday

After an early morning walk through the nearby countryside we went to the Howley Tavern for Sunday roast lunch.

 
Then home for a nap (I blame the cider). Woke about 7.00 pm to a beautifully sunny late Sunday evening and sat in the garden to watch the sun set.

Just 40 hours from home to home

Left home 4.00 pm Friday. Arrived at Cherry and Jon's just after 9.00 pm Saturday, after  picking up a traditional English meal for dinner from the Axminster curry house. 

As usual, we both slept solidly. Till 3.00am. A few hours and a bit more sleep later we got up on Sunday morning for our first look around Cherry and Jon's place in daylight.

The front garden is across the road from the house. Jon built the pond.
